2 months ago, the lock on my driver's door suddenly would not unlock.

Eventually, I used vicegrips and pulled with all my might and pulled up the interior pull-lock-tab-thing. Afterwards, the lock worked flawlessly for a whole 2 weeks. Then I had to break out the vicegrips again and it pulled up rather easily.

Fast forwars. Last night was the first time I drove the pickup in nearly 2 months. I spent 45 minutes, but I couldn't get my door open this time. I tried every little combo. Lubicating the cylinder and tab, yank while pulling interior handle, exterior handle, using the key to turn the lock cylinder...

By the way, the cylinder can smoothly turn it to the lock position, but stops halfway whilst attempting to unlock. You can see the tab move up 1/4" then stop...

I'm going to fix the lock, it's no biggie since I've taken apart the door so many times to fix the window regular and track. Except, the first step toward repair is to get the damn door open! You cannot remove the panel with the door closed!

Help?

If you pull off most of the hardware can you flex the top of the door card without creasing it to get access?

Hmm you may be on to something. I can't remove the panel but I can removed the armrest, the handle, and the window regulator... And I remove the rubber on the card, but what then? Stick a coat hanger and hope I can pop the lock mechanism up?

That's where my logic was going. I had to do the same in a snowy parking lot in UT with my last SR5. Do you have a head lamp?

A cheap one but yeah. Leaving for the junkyard in Machias now. This gen is rarely in yards — rarer with any remaining usable parts. Gotta stock up!

Sounds like you need to use a bigger hammer.

Is your key bent? I had a similar problem with my Tacoma and I had to get new keys cut from my spare since the one I used was bent.

Key is fine — won't unlock from even inside :(

Just do it "Duke Boys" style....leave the window down all the time and climb in that way :-)
